UK School Employees Targeted in Ransomware Attacks

Ransomware targets school

Fraudsters pretending to be officials from the UK Department of Education are calling up schools to solicit email and phone details to send employees zipped files containing ransomware. Some fraudsters claimed that they needed to send documents to specific teachers, instead of a general school email address, because they contained confidential information. The emails are attached with ransomware files that, once downloaded, encrypt computer files and request up to £8,000 (S$14,190) to recover the files.
